Last year, about halfway through the year, I decided to keep a list of what I thought were the best albums of the year, and I compiled them here. When I started the list, I imagined that, year after year, I would compare my list to the most (in)famous album of the year list, over at Pitchfork (but, you know…). I’m sad that there likely won’t be a future for that list (or a future with the same uniqueness) because it’s always been a highlight of December for me, whether I agree with Pitchfork or not. (Regardless, it’s always fun to pick a random year and put on a few albums that you remember or that you don’t and give them a listen).
Anyway, I’m putting together a list of albums again this year, and I may have become too diligent in my compilation because January has already yielded fourteen albums/nine hours of music (you can follow/view the current status of my list, via Spotify, here). Because it seems unavoidable that my list will continue to balloon over the next eleven months. I wanted to highlight some albums that I think are remarkable from this month:
- Rosie Carr, yew
- PACKS, Melt the Honey
- Angry Blackmen, The Legend of ABM
Listen to them! You won’t regret it.
